I did read it. Truely I did. And my respect for my niece (one of the editors) has grown. I'm passing the book on to the library of the ethnological museum - Welt Museum Wien - in the hopes that it will be read by someone better equiped to really appreciate it. BTW, fond aunt or not, I think Joanne's article was one of the easiest for non-archaeologists to understand.

I was also impressed by the editing job. Too many of these anthology volumes end up either very fragmanted, or each writer gives a long introduction with pages of the same information, often of material that most readers won't need. Not only was this sort of material well presented in the introduction to the book, so that the individual articles didn't need to present it, but the various writers were in contact with each other and were able to refer to each others' articles (and the introduction). It is much more pleasant to read a book with this sort of work done by the editors.… (mehr)
