Martin intrigued me with his immediate and powerful attraction to Andre, and with his odd blend of intense concerns about Andre yet unquestioning acceptance of Melissa's demands. I could tell there's a deeper story. And yet the reasons, revealed bit by bit, are still a little startling and weird, though they fit. It all fits. I loved where it ended, knowing how they got there, finally. I trusted the author to bring it together, and she didn't disappoint at all. Recommended.

Well, I’d expected this to be a bit darker. Maybe because at the beginning, Everett was giving off this creepy vibe (Everett’s sessions with his therapist were a nice touch) that mellowed out later, instead of escalating. That might be good or bad depending on what you like; I was in the mood for something dark so I’m a little disappointed.

The kink was pretty mild here, in my opinion. Light D/s and some humiliation play. Personally, I’m partial to the second half of the BDSM acronym, so it was pretty vanilla to me — HOT vanilla, but still. The power imbalance in Lake and Everett’s relationship was very interesting, though, as was Everett’s character study.

Laura Lascarso is a phenomenal writer with a distinctive, amazing voice, and for me, all of her books are 5-star material. Call me Daniel didn’t hit me the way her Mortal and Divine series had, but then again, I used my special 6-star rating for that one.

Wow. It’s been a while since I've cried over a book, but this one broke my heart. From the very first pages until the end, I was drowning in feels. It was unputdownable. It was unlike anything I’ve ever read.

Orlando was a sassy kid with serious issues. I completely adored him. He'd been dealt a shitty hand, and my heart went out to him. For better or for worse, his chance encounter with Henri - both a blessing and a curse - shaped the rest of his life. Orlando imprinted on him like a baby duckling.

Henri was Orlando’s savior in so many ways. Caring and considerate, but also ruthless and forceful, he was a study in contrast and arguably one of my favorite characters ever. I was a bit wary when he became so fixated on Orlando when he was just six years old especially considering what was going on in Orlando’s life at the time. I shouldn’t have - the story progressed beautifully, and I was taken on a ride I won’t soon forget.

Their relationship was INTENSE - obsessive, codependent, and not very healthy at all. But that was the beauty of it. Who’d want to read about an easy relationship with an immortal being, anyway? Not me, that’s for sure. And don’t even get me started on the sex. Holy cow, some of THE hottest scenes I’ve read in MY LIFE are in this book. Definitely NSFW.

The world building was amazing, and the unique narration style (second person POV) was the perfect choice for this story. It was everything I could hope for and more. After such an ending, though, I need the sequel ASAP!

Damn. I hoped I’d be more articulate after my reread, but nope, I’m still an incoherent mess. This book was just SO GOOD!
