An interesting, well-organized read. I loved unicorns as a kid, and really enjoyed this book. I learned a few new things about unicorns (and narwhals). Short, but not too short sections with illustrations made this an easy and enjoyable read that included possible basis for the myth from around the world, the relationship to the narwhal, the unicorn as a symbol, and modern day commercialization.

Probably best for kids age 8-14, but I enjoyed as an adult. A children's book, but probably not for little children.… (mehr)

Now this is the kind of book that makes my heart sing.
A non-fiction book on a fictious animal, but still completely true; sounds like a total paradox, but this book manages just that.
It looks at what a unicorn is from a lot of different angles; mythological, etymological, historical, biological, .... and still manages to be comprehensible for kids, without being too simplistic, belittleling or incomplete.
A wonderful 6 stars out of 5.
