Khary Lazarre-White

This novel reminds me of the Spike Lee joint "Crooklyn". In 1993, a young black teenager, Warrior, lives with his mom and sister in Harlem and spends a lot of time with his father in Brooklyn. Despite having a warm and loving family, Warrior is threatened every time he steps out of his door by "wolves" - the howling voices that represent every danger that seeks to shorten his days. The "blue soldiers" also stay on his trail, always menacing and trying to scare Warrior into making him their victim. This is both a fable and a novel in the manner of Ta-Nehisi Coate's warning to his own son "Between The World And Me." A very deep read.
