I was so excited to learn that I was to receive this book! It arrived quickly. However, when I looked through it, I was really disappointed that it was all black and white. At least a few color pictures would have improved it immensely. Even after finishing the book, I don't have a very good idea of what the akule actually looks like. Before the end of the book, I was just hurrying through to finish. That said, the shapes that the schools form are fascinating, and I was amazed at the large numbers in each school and how they swam together.… (mehr)

I am usually a huge photography fan but this book didn't elicit any type of feeling or liking from me. When I think of Hawaii I think bold bright colors. Now I can understand the photographer liking black and white, but this should definitely have been more vivid. Black and white has a definite spot in the world of photography but not here. I think it was a bad choice on behalf of the artist. Some of the pictures are slightly out of focus, which is understandable given the focus of the picture is in constant movement, but absolutely drives me nuts. The fish themselves give fantastic shapes, designs, and movement. If anything I think the fish get all if any of the credit for these pictures. The book left me wanting more substance from each picture.
