An Illustrated Coastal Year: The Seashore Uncovered… von Celia Lewis
I chose this delightful book from the new materials shelf at our library. It features lovely watercolor illustrations, just the right amount of text for browsing, plus recipes and craft ideas. A beautiful book for nature lovers and artists.
British based book on chickens. Lots of chicken breeds with pictures and descriptions. Some breeds not readily available in the US. Still fun to look at. Also includes basic info on raising backyard chickens.
Celia has created a very beautiful book on pigs. Although not incredibly comprehensive on each breed, it does provide a taste (Excuse the association) of the different varieties of pig accompanied by wonderful illustrations and snippets of pig related prose, idiom, and verse. If you like pigs or keep pigs this book is a fine edition to any collection of pig related resources. If you are starting out rearing pigs then this book is worth a browse as it will assist you with getting an idea on the temperament of the many breeds, and help you make a choice about which breed will suit your purposes.
At the end of the book is a brief section on slaughtering, from curing bacon to making sausages. This book is a lovely homage, written with love, to my favourite animal, and coincides with my acquisition of a wooly Mangalitza.… (mehr)

Even if you have no plans to keep chickens, the lovely watercolor illustrations on every page will bring delighted enjoyment of this little book. If you do plan to keep a backyard flock, then you will find good information here, including temperament and nature so that you can decide which variety is right for you. The book is small; about 61/2 inches by 8 inches and has a sturdy soft cover so it's easy to pick up and lose yourself in the interesting world of domestic chickens.
