I remember reading this book in the Spring of 1969, prior to the environmental movement becoming fashionable. My parents had it out as a coffee table book in the living room. I actually read the book then and it introduced me to environmentalism. Environmentalism in the good sense, not in the sense of trying to obstruct any human progress, such as the "climate change" movement.

Fortunately, the Grand Canyon was saved from being dammed by this book. This book described in agonizing detail the failure to stop the building of the Glen Canyon Dam, which in many ways was as or more spectacular than Grand Canyon. On the good side, what a book!
