from dust jacket Ju-jitsu is the most perfect form of self-defense known to man. This ancient art-which uses the attacker's own power to defeat him-enables the smallest, thinnest, most unathletic teen-ager to throw an opponent three times his size! With this astonishing skill, no boy or girl need ever be afraid again; need ever run from a bully or fear an attack. No other sport and no other technique of self-defense can offer the teen-ager such complete condfidence! In clear, simple language, the auther presents Cliff Freeland's system, starting with an explanation of ju-jitsu. He goes on to say who should learn ju-jjitsu, when to use ju-jitsu, conditioning for ju-jitsu. From there he emphasizes the basics of ju-jitsu-how to fall, breaking the balance, basic hand movements, basic foot movements, basic hip movements and special techniques. The author also discusses attacks in real-life situation and the self-defense techniques to employ in each of these situations. The easy-to-read instructions are accompanied by photographs that show the step-by-step movements in absolute clarity. Experts in ju-jitsu-from a 90-pound eleven-year old boy to a 290-pound adult-were used to demonstrate all of the holds and techniques. Boys and girls will benefit by the instuctions and techniques in this book, and at the same time that they are learning how to protect themselves against unprovoked attacks, they will have fun with the exercises and the sport.
