Poppylan found out her boyfriend was cheating on her when she walked in on them. She jumps on a scooter and drives away, crashing into a bush. Meanwhile Tora recieves a call from a friend pleading for help. Their paths cross at scene of the accident/meetup place and misunderstandings ensue when he starts to suspect she is somehow involved or has information about his friends disappearance. He follows her to the train station trying to find out more. Even after realizing she is doesnt know anything about the matter they keep running into each other.
This is by no means a fast romance, surely its an unlikely one.
Poppy may seem incredibly naive and innocent in comparision to the tough Tora, but she is hardly stupid and has some quite perceptive moments. Its particularly gratifying when she manages get the upper hand on Tora. There is lot of back and forth and teasing.
The love interest,Tora is member of the organized crime syndicate the Balthuman organization. He was taken in at a young age and trained to become a perfect member of the organization. Its not Danny the Dog levels but its clear it was far from an idyllic childhood wich has stunted him. Tora would be the first to reject the idea that he is misunderstood and a victim however.
I have to admit that this IS a heavily romanticized depiction and it would not be good in real life to get involved with someone from the criminal underworld and with these kind of issues, and so far Poppy has not been confronted with the full implications of what Tora did and does for the crime syndicate. Tora to his credit tries to distance himself from her from her for own good but they soon finds themselves together again by certain circumstances.
Its not all about their romance however. Poppy is still hurt by her breakup and is trying to regain her confidence after being constantly put down by her ex. There are also friendships and other comittments in both Poppy and Toras lives wich adds a dash of authencity to the story. They have pasts and flaws.
This webtoon quite possibly bad for you but you keep reading because you like the characters and want to see them together. Its not politically correct, its possibly morally wrong to like it but...its just such a guilty pleasure.
It helps that the setting is not our own world but one that the author made up to get free hands to play around with. Its also kept delibaretly unclear what ethnicity anyone is as there are english, japanese and mongolian names. So somewhere in Asia?
I have devoured all chapters and now I am caught up and there is no more. Until Saturday.
I like how the artist-author seems to have planned out the story beforehand. Something that a character does in the early chapters is referenced in a later chapter. Not as major plot point but it had me going "aha I see what you did there"
The art is very good with rich vibrant colors. The style is very distinctive as evidenced by her previous work,[b:Asuras Bride|42939720|Asuras Bride|Lilydusk|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1554200806l/42939720._SY75_.jpg|66730171] The artist clearly has a penchant for longhaired muscular men with elaborate tattoos.
Be prepared for loving closeups characters faces. Especially Toras. Particularly Toras while smoking lol. (I know smoking is bad but I am already in too deep to care)… (mehr)
