G. Norman Lippert

This book was more or less what I expected; tbh it felt very much like an early Harry Potter, with a few different names here and there, and written 20 years later, so it's a bit more snazzy.

I liked the plot and most of the characters, the writing was good enough to have me see and feel what was happening, and not get pulled out of the story by being too demonstratively present. That's a fine line!

I did get annoyed by Harry, I mean James, being a secretive little shit, keeping important stuff from anyone who could actually have done anything, despite repeated prompting by friends and advisors.

Usually a plot that revolves around people not communicating strikes me as lazy, but in this case it was very much in character. I was annoyed by James, not by the author. Very nicely done. I might pick up the next one in the series after a little break.… (mehr)
