Zongren Liu

Novel written by the author of Two Years in the Melting Pot. After returning to China, the author began writing books. This is a story of several families that live in a courtyard compound. The time frame is during the cultural revolution up until shortly after Mao's death. A sad story, as most of this time frame are, yet a story full of compassionate and strong people. A good read.

This was a book from a different perspective than we are used to seeing. This was a man that came to America for 2 years to study from China. It was interesting to see how he viewed our culture -- and to follow his homesickness and longings for China. This was one person that was more interested in the simple lifestyle of home than the crazy material America. An interesting read.
