Barry Livingston

This is Barry Livingston’s (Ernie on My Three Sons) autobiography. He talks about how he began in show business and his experiences on My Three Sons – although there isn’t much detail about the show. He does provide a delightful look at both William Frawley and William Demarest as well as his experiences of meeting Elvis, Lucille Ball, and Jack Benny but I would have liked more of these kinds of stories. He didn’t have a whole lot to say about Fred MacMurray and I would have liked more of this as well. We then get to hear about his drug experimentation as well as his sleeping around. I think he should have provided a stronger warning to any young folks reading about how dangerous both of these activities are – especially in today’s times. He then transitions to his work on tv shows like Mad Men or films like The Social Network. Overall, it is nice to hear that Livingston did get his life together and has been able to make a living in show business. However, I would have liked to have more stories about the people he met and the influence they had on him and his acting career. Additionally, while we get to hear about what happened to his folks, we really do not know what brother Stanley (Chip on My Three Sons) is doing these days.… (mehr)
