Truly, I do not know why I let this book sit in the black hole of kindle-land for months. It's amazing. Yet again, Emma Lord has hooked me with lovable characters, great humor, and yummy food. (seriously Emma, you owe me food now.)
What I really liked seeing was the sister relationship between Abby and Savvy. It felt so real, complex, and complicated. Their difficulties in understanding each other and their new connection were perfectly written and it felt like they were sitting next to me.
I also have to note that I ship Leo and Abby so much.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, Lord's books are addictive reads that are difficult to put down. I highly recommend this one for fans of emotional ya contemporary stories.

Rating: 5/5
Language: a**, d***, s*** f***, probably a few others that I missed
Romance: a few kisses, girls in relationships with girls
Spiritual: n/a
Violence: n/a

*I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All thoughts are my own and a positive review was not required.

Pepper is being pressured by her mom to do some snarky Tweeting for her mom's company. There's a feud brewing between her family's fast food company and a small business called Girl Cheesing. What Pepper is slow to find out is that her classmate Jack is on the other side of the Twitter war.
Pepper is also talking to Wolf on the school's social media site (which happens to have been created by Jack).
The book has lots of conflicts and hurdles, characters that are richly developed, conflicts with family, self, and friend groups, and a sweet love story.… (mehr)

Oh, I am such a sucker for the childhood-friends-become-lovers trope, and this book did not disappoint in that respect! I'm not a huge fan of the fake-dating trope, however, but the author makes charming use of it. June and Levi are childhood friends who've drifted apart, but re-connect in their home town after both are dumped by their exes in a spectacularly public fashion. I liked watching June and Levi's friendship get rekindled and then build into something more. The side plot of wedding planning together feels a bit much though, like another layer of forced proximity is being piled on when it's not really needed. The themes of regret and loss throughout the book give a bit of depth to help offset the shallower fake-dating premise of the main storyline. It's always nice to see a main character focus on personal growth as well as relationship growth, like June does. My thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review!… (mehr)
