- David Lucas was born in Middlesbrough and grew up Hackney, in east London. Shortly after graduating from The Royal College of Art, he illustrated a picture book by Ted Hughes and began writing picture book stories of his own.
He has since written and illustrated more than eighteen books, translated into at least twelve languages.
He lives with his wife and daughter in an old school house, in Leytonstone, London.

A hopeless agoraphobic becomes celebrated at court for his outlandish dress sense. He exacts appropriate revenge on a hostile world by convincing the upper echelons of his society to dress as badly as himself.
