Piglet -- who is being uncharacteristically assertive -- and Pooh need help to fully decorate a living pine tree in the Hundred-Acre Wood for Christmas. Several friends assist, but it takes a deus ex machina in the form of a couple passing birds to finish it off.

Which raises the question: Where's Owl?

Is this another writer who thinks Owls fly south for the winter, so the character is unavailable? See also: Disney's My Very First Winnie the Pooh: Owl's Trip South and Pooh: Christmas in the Hundred Acre Wood.

(My Pooh Project: I love Winnie the Pooh, and so does my wife. Having a daughter gave us a chance to indoctrinate her into the cult by buying and reading her every Pooh book we came across. How many is that? I’m going to count them this year by reading and reviewing one every day and seeing which month I finally run out. Track my progress here:

The title is misleading in that everyone else is getting ready for winter by doing chores but Pooh farms his preparations out to Christopher Robin.

This book is notable to me for the out of the blue introduction of a new character called Chipmunk, with whom Pooh talks as if they have been friends in the Hundred-Acre Wood for years. Did contract negotiations with Gopher break down that year? Is Chipmunk a scab? I'm still waiting for his reappearance.

The title is the story: Pooh picks a costume. That's it. Done. Move along now.

Pooh wakes up one morning and sees fog outside his window. Thinking it must be a cloud tumbled down from above, he rushes out to warn his friends that the sky is falling.

This Chicken Little homage follows the creaky old Pooh story formula that I always complain about -- Pooh wakes up and solves a problem by visiting all his friends one by one and then celebrating the solution with a party -- but gosh darn if it doesn't work here for once. I especially like the prosaic shrug of an ending. The spot-on art helps.
