Maid of Honor Maggie is trying to help bridezilla Alice with her wedding with disastrous results. Saved by their childhood friend Zeke they embark on a wedding frenzy and reconnect from not seeing each other in years. Trying to balance wedding duties, the hospital visits, work, and a new hit job that has come her way, Maggie is overwhelmed. Getting some help from murder mentor Patrick, who has his own stuff to deal with, the next hit is on someone close to home. Patrick is unable to help with this one and he and Maggie come to terms with what could be quite possibly her death. Meanwhile, Paul is starting to turn into a stalker, the aunts are still meddling, and Maggie is getting threats from unknown sources concerning her father's crimes that he's incarcerated for. Trying to pull off the hit so she has money to pay for Katie's hospital bills has Maggie bringing her pets along for moral support and she keeps running into Zeke at the most inopportune times. Funny kickoff to the series. Maggie has a dead end job, a father in prison, a mother in the loony bin, three irritating eccentric aunts, three sisters, and a knock on the head that gives her the ability to hear her niece's lizard (Godzilla) speak. She's already a step away from losing it trying to figure a way to come up with money to pay her niece's hospital bill. Dumb luck has a mobster hiring her to off someone. Maggie gets training and rules from police detective/hitman Patrick, who mentors her on the fine art of killing someone. Meanwhile, a hot prospect named Paul, who is a police officer too, wants to date her and he may have ulterior motives. A blend of humor, suspense, and chemistry. A few misspellings and some choppy writing but really enjoyable. Looking forward to the next book in the series (there are currently 36)… (mehr)
