Intended to be a coauthored memoir, Edie Windsor died before completion, leaving Joshua Lyon to figure out how to finish when her voice was so specific. His solution: to wrap up chapters in his own voice & with interviews with those who knew her. An interesting way of giving context to a fascinating woman‘s life. Windsor is famous as the widow whose court case opened the doors to marriage equality- but the stories of her wild-but-discreet youth and her relationship with Thea are by far the most engaging parts of the book.… (mehr)

I enjoyed this book, one, because it's based on a true story of a young man trying to research prescription drug abuse and the battles that he faced with this addiction.

Joshua was a young gay man, who worked for Jane magazine and decided to find out more about prescription drug abuse, he talked his editor into giving him an allowance to purchase some pills online to see how easy it would be to aquire these drugs. A few days later, he had a package waiting at his door. Now Joshua has an addictive personality so of course he fell into the addiction trap once he decided to try the Vicodin. He found himself a new love.

The book follows him on his journey through the addiction of pain killers and his trip to rehab and his research along the way. He interviewed quite a few people throughout this journey.

What I really enjoyed about this book was he honesty. He knew he had a problem, but was unwilling to do anything about it because he had the mentality that he wasn't hurting anyone. He saw relationships fall apart due to this addiction with others that he was either friends with or that he interviewed. He found that it wasn't always an easy adventure to get the pills but he knew that he would never stop trying to get them, one way or the other.

This is a must read for those that are going through any type of addiction or know of someone who is!
