This is an exceptional novel. A novel within a novel. A marriage within a marriage. An original creation within a plagerized creation within an original creation. All of this written using a style of bare dialogue.
Lest that description lead you to believe this is primarily a work of stylistic innovation its form very quickly establishes itself as crucial to its artistic content. The effect is unexpectedly accurate - I got uncomfortable with some of the conversations as they seemed transcribed from my own life.
The novel covers a lot of material. Its hall of mirrors structure draws together artistic creation, the creation of marriage, the creation of meaning - personal and social - the creation of one's future and one's past, the creation of an other, and the creation of being.
