Fantastic edition from Taschen. This new TASCHEN XXL edition revives the series with due scale and splendor. Sourced from the only-known set of a near-complete run of the first edition of the series, this legendary publication is reproduced in optimum quality, bound in the Japanese tradition and with uncut paper. A perfect companion piece to TASCHEN’s One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, it is at once a visual delight and a major artifact from the bygone era of Imperial Japan.

Short text but helpful, provided a bit more information about the printmakers and their work. But the wonderful thing are the prints. A few were ones that most fans of the medium would have seen before but most were ones I was not familiar with. A good addition to my Japan collection. The author is the head of the Japanese Dept at the Minneapolis Museum of Art. A good deal of the prints are from there or from Honolulu with a few from private collections.
