Barry Martinson

This book was a quick and comfortable read about the people and surroundings of a tribal mountain village in northwestern Taiwan. I don't mean to say that it was idealized or utopian, but rather that it felt as if the author was standing next to you during the sad or hard parts to lay a hand on your shoulder if you needed calming or comforting. There is also quite a lot of humor, much of it revolving around the author's tragically delicious pets.
