I wasn't sure I could continue when I started reading this. It needs some good copy editing. There are missing words, slips in tense, incorrect words used (as if spellcheck has used the first word suggested), poor grammar, missing or wrongly placed quote marks, you name it.
But the story draws you in. Despite the errors the writing is lively. This author can tell a story. It was intriguing, clever, a noir romp. Not a description you would think relevant to a story about a serial killer, but there you are. No blood or gore or bad language here.
Set in New Zealand, the author knows her landscape well, though her portrayal of NZ men may be a bit stereotyped. Still, that may just be Audrey's view of them, and she has her reasons, as we discover.
The series covers five books, each one developing the story further to its satisfying conclusion.
The Murder Suite, The Cabin by the Sea, Murder in the Family, The Murder Trail and The Murder Trap.
If it weren't for the errors I would have given it a 5* rating. I dare you to be able to stop before you've read all five. I couldn't.
