From here is gets really interesting.... I have read this book multiple times and its still fresh like I just read it for the first time.

Brown Sugar by Lena Matthews is a fast read featuring an interracial couple. The story takes place in the late 1970s and while it is perfectly legal to date, society still frowns upon the idea of interaction relationships. Embry and Shayna have been friends most of their lives although they are from different races and socioeconomic backgrounds. The story opens with a heated scene as Shayna and Embry unleash their passion for the first time. Their feelings clearly extend beyond the physical but Shayna is afraid of the backlash surrounding interracial dating. The highlights of the novel are the wonderful character development and the dialogue scenes, which are phenomenal. I was enrapt by Embry and Shayna’s conversations as the naturalness felt very poignant and real.

Brown Sugar is fairly short, but there is so much to love about this story. This novel can be completed in one quick read and with good dialogue, believable characters and a touching ending, readers will be happy.

Embry is an attorney but despite his sometimes stuffy profession, he is a laidback and likeable guy. He has loved Shayna all their lives and while she sees him as a brother, he wants much more. After an evening of becoming inebriated together, Shayna and Embry give in to the latent passion between them and there is no turning back. Shayna wants to continue as if nothing happened, but after the magic he experiences with Shayna Embry will settle for nothing less than all of her; body and soul.… (mehr)
