Alicia is a foster child with a lot on her mind. She has just been moved to a new foster assignment after spending a lot of years with one foster mother. She is trying to get into a prestigious design school, and really needs to just concentrate on school and not make any waves. But when she gets in between a jealous ex-girlfriend and her new neighbor, things get more messy than she bargained for. This book is part of a AltLives series, based on a computer game that can show foster kids their birth parents and the lives they might have lived. In Alicia's case, it is a migrant worker life. This book was way too short for all of the subplots that were included, such as the jealous ex-girlfriend who Alicia competes against for the scholarship to design school - it is rumored that she has a bad home life, but it's never exposed. Also, while Alicia meets her birth family, it's never explained really why they gave her away, other than her suspicion that they could not afford two children on their migrant worker salary. This would be good for young teens - only kissing and some provocative issues introduced.… (mehr)
