George Lucas of Lucasfilm wanted to make a about the Tuskegee airmen in action since 1988, and invested in this movie but could not get major studios interested in releasing a story about Black aviators in WWII The movie was released in 2012. In the interval, the script was rewritten. The movie team consulted the historical Tuskegee airmen. The Wikipedia entry (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Tails) assesses the movie an entertainment fairly. The movie uses several Hollywood tropes that make it resemble a WWII movie made in the 1950s or 60s when audiences were moreinterested in movies about the war. It touches on the Italian campaign and the American part of the aerial bombing of Germany. It has aerial combat, tension between branches of the air force over the and the proper use of pilots and the American fighers, the P-40 and the P-51. It has (special effects) scenes of aerial combat between P-51s and German jet Me-262s.… (mehr)
The levels of ridiculousness this satire hit were pretty entertaining at times and it was kind of fun to imagine this going on just on the other side of the river, but the formatting was off enough for me to never seem to be able to fully get into it. It didn't seem like much editing was done past its original movie script form...and I think I would have liked the movie better had it been made.

Silly, beautiful, ridiculous great fun. A great implausible idea that's over before it bothers you. Like a great short film.
