This gets major coolness points for being a way that my anscestors learned spelling and bonus points for being really old. The book begins with many rules of grammar (that I imagine a new speller could not actually read...), and continues on with the alphabet in three fonts, and then with phonetic pictures, as it is most commonly taught today. It goes into phonetic word families in later lessons, and towards the end of the book, the rules are written out and other exercises are included. Though it doesn't have any fancy materials, this book is actually sound phonetic teaching, and not a bad source for finding word families.… (mehr)
