I have been interested in the topic of disinformation ever since 1972, when I was a freshman in college and took a journalism course. I learned about fact vs opinion, yellow journalism, how to examine an article’s source for validity, etc. This background has been incredibly helpful in subsequent decades, guiding me through my reading. In the last few decades, for a variety of reasons, we have slid back into an opinion-as-fact perspective, even to the point where true, proven facts are questioned. In this election year, a book like this helps to understand the milieu we find ourselves in and gives practical suggestions for how we can deal with it. The book is divided into 4 sections: The Creators, The Amplifiers, The Believers, and How To Win The War On Truth. It’s a nice accompaniment to ‘On Tyranny,’ by Timothy Snyder. I did not read this book to enjoy it. I read this book to find out the truth in an age where the truth seems to be the first victim of media and political conflicts. And believe me when I say that McIntyre does not disappoint. His prose is simplistic, avoids jargon and he substantiates his arguments with substantial evidence. I propose-nay command-that each and every individual who believes themselves to be intelligent read this book and then re-read it to learn how the truth is the truth no more today but a commercialized reflection of what atrophied leaders want us to believe rather than what we must believe.… (mehr)
