Treasured by Leigh McLeroy is a book of devotional insights that follows the author through some of the major stories and events of the Bible, picking out a key object from each story (a fig leaf, Abraham’s knife, a smooth stone etc.) and uses those objects to illustrate God’s love and care for us. McLeroy also brings her own life’s experiences alongside each of her reflections on the objects she has chosen from each story.

There are thirteen short chapters that make for brisk devotional reading. A discussion guide is also included which would lend itself well to use in a small group setting. This is a book that is best for newer believers – within their first year or two of birth into God’s family. Many of the stories and insights are fairy simple, and most Christians who have been in the faith for more than a couple of years will be familiar with the major points that McLeroy is making.

In all honesty, this isn’t a title that I can picture myself buying for our own collection, but it might make a good gift for a new believer who is just starting to learn about God, his history, and how Christians relate to Him in their daily lives.

Do you know God's treasure? If you don't, you will after reading this amazing book by Leigh McLeroy.

Woven in the words of these pages are pieces of the Bible, glimpses of God's treasures. From collecting His very first treasure-Adam and Eve's first coverings to His scarlet robe stained crimson red by blood, to His most loved and precious treasure-us, His children.

Through the many examples McLeroy uses, they can be compared to instances of near similarity in the Bible, showing us of the many treasures God has collected.

I definitely would tell someone who is feeling down about themselves, or ashamed in some way, to down with a copy of Leigh McLeroy's Treasured. It is worth the time and, like me, I'm sure you will walk away with a changed heart and attitude, or atleast feeling that you are truly one of God's treasured gifts!

Definitely 5 stars!!!

NCLA Review - This devotional book of 112 devotions is laid out a little differently. The author’s thoughts are first, then the scripture reading which underpins the thoughts, and then the personal questions that help you to think about the text just read. This is a thoughtful, pondering book, divided into sections with titles such as: "Ordinary Places" and "Ordinary People," but the thoughts encountered are extra-"ordinary". They provide uplifting and firmly scripture based thoughts on the lives we lead in the Lord, reading more like a continuous thought than the usual devotional. An enjoyable devotional all around reminding us that God is with us in all our "ordinariness", even though the Almighty is far from ordinary. Recommended for either individuals or groups (who could work through the topics on a weekly basis). Rating: 4—CP… (mehr)

Chapter 13 is all I can say--I met this author in June of 2007 when she was the guest speaker at a women's retreat I attended. After the first lecture entitled "A Theology of Work" I decided she was living the same life I was, only about 4 years ahead of me. I haven't read all of the book yet but so far, so good! Check out Leigh's website at www.wednesdaywords.com.
