Done after two chapters. I think it was a combination of the introduction, the narrator, and the terrible stereotypes that made me turn off the audio and get a refund from Audible. No matter what it was, this wasn't the book for me at this moment in time.

My original The Apocalypse Crusade 2 audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

I was worried after reading so many of Peter Meredith's books, I thought that I would not remember what happened in book one of War of the Undead. As soon as I started this memories of that book came piling in. It helps that Peter Meredith peppers hints from the previous book. They are scattered throughout so reading these a year apart would not be a big deal. Although, I would definitely recommend reading book one prior to book two.

This did seem to jump right in where book one left off. There are many, many characters but the main few who did survive are in this. Interestingly enough, I forgot that the government tried to put up a quarantine zone. As the book progresses the characters that are involved are those in that quarantine blockade and those in the zone.

Since this is another zombie book, some may ask why they should read this. Peter Meredith has a way of making zombies horrific even after we have read about them for so many years. He brings a new edge, a new way of thinking about them, and adds that into a plot that is chock full of twists with characters that sometimes grow through their characters arcs and sometimes die. This is why I love reading his books. Not only that but the zombies in this particular series are just scary!

Unlike zombies in other stories, some of these can think and react to us. They are still people, they are just pissed off people that crave blood. Which of course means that they can think and plan. Not something I would hope for in a zombie. This makes them even harder to predict and harder to kill.

Some of these characters stand out more than others, whether for good or bad, but what makes all the difference is the fantastic narration from Erik Johnson. It's as if he can make the feelings of the characters palpable. Where Peter Meredith makes someone fall in love, Erik makes us feel that and the empathy that goes along with knowing that they are probably going to die! It's a great team for a great horror. The audio was well done but I was way too into the story to notice any hiccups anyway!

On a side note, this is the first horror in a while that gave me nightmares! Something has to be said for that!

My original Blood Lure audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

Peter Meredith is one of my favorite authors. His books are filled with exciting plots, well built characters, and fraught with tension that you can cut with a knife! I am in love with his zombie stories, although most of them give me nightmares, so when I saw this, although it is fantasy, I still jumped at the chance. Sadly, I think my hopes were a little too high.

First of all, Peter’s great writing is peppered throughout this story. There are passages where I can really tell he wrote this, but then there are others that make me wonder if this was a first book maybe, or if someone wrote it with him. This could be it, or my dislike could be due to four other reasons:

1. My hopes were way too high! After reading the apocalypse series and falling in love with other characters, it is hard not to WANT to fall completely head over heels for another book that an author writes. I think I went into this hoping for something that it just could not deliver as a fantasy.
2. It is fantasy. I do not normally do well with fantasy unless there is an element (a huge portion) of the book that is horror.
3. My own current reading habits. Although, I think it has less to do with this because I have read a few books over the last three months that have really pulled me in. Sadly, this was not one of them.
4. The narration from Fred Wolinsky. The plot does lend to a sort of over dramatic feeling but I thought the narrator went overboard way too many times. There are pauses when I would not expect them and the starts and stops are very staccato. I felt like I was in a car ride where the driver continues to press on the brake without warning. I was jolted many times and found that I could not get into the story. I have not listened to Fred Wolinsky before so I am not sure if this is just his style.

The plot was interesting at first. Again, my reading habits (due to stress in real life) have been atrocious so something really has to grab me for me to be able to stick with it. Sadly, this fell short. Ella finds out she is adopted and freaks out. I’m talking seriously flips and runs away. This did not resonate with me at all. Right from the beginning I started to dislike her and her strange actions. I never fully understood her or the things she was doing.

With the narrating issues, I never felt like I could fully understand any of the characters. I could not get into this one at all. I do recommend Peter Meredith and I may decide to read this instead of listening, but as an audio, it was not my favorite fantasy.

My original The Apocalypse Fugitives audiobook review and many others can be found at Audiobook Reviewer.

This may be my favorite so far. Jillybean is once again at her peak performance! I love when a new character meets her and at first they think she's mental, and maybe a bit she is, but then they need her to save their lives!

Once again the audio in this is impeccable. I am so glad that Peter Meredith has stuck with Basil Sands throughout the series. Now that I am comfortable with all of the characters and their voices, another narrator would totally throw me off. Basil, yet again, sets a standard for which other audiobooks will be judged. The voices are on point, as are each inflection. I can never tell when the story is getting into a crescendo because Basil and Peter have me so sucked in, that everyone and everything else around me are null and void.

In this fourth book, Peter Meredith has continued right along with the series. He has added to the series with each book, so these must be read in order. Besides that, the characters are so fantastic that you will want to read them in order to get a real understanding of each of the characters. Especially since new characters are coming in all the time.

This one took me a bit longer to get into. It was not because the plot was not there, because it was, but because I had to give myself time. This starts at the same intensity that some books crescendo at! Intense does not even really embody how crazy this gets.

I do love the new characters. Some of them are a bit prissy. They have been taken care of and as such expect to be treated a certain way. They do not even know how to kill zombies. AND they judge Neil and Jillybean. Rude!

This one is hard to review without spoilers. I can say that this is my absolute favorite. The characters, the drama, the intensity! The plot is amazing. Once again ends on a huge cliff hangers with lives in the balance! Brilliantly done.

The only thing you'll want to do after reading this, is read the next one. Brilliant, I say! Brilliant!
