I am an English Literature teacher, so I always like to have some good resources when I look through books and wonder about the next school year for my high schoolers. After reading through this helpful book, I had a lot of ideas for my class. As a John Green fan, I always like how well he connects his readers to the teenage mindset, something that I think a lot of adults forget and deride too often. I thought this book really helped bring to light some of his more subtle metaphors, symbols, and motifs. I highly recommend it to anyone who has read (or would even like to read) Green's "Paper Towns."… (mehr)

This is the "sidekick" to Dean Koontz Saint Odd. Saint Odd is the first of a great series, and this book is perfect to decipher Koontz symbolism and metaphors. It will open your eyes to the ever mysterious and unknown mind of Odd Thomas. It is broken down by grouping chapters together and picking apart what the meaning is behind Koontz written words.

In Pico Mundo, California, which is a fictional city in the Mojave Desert. I had an easy time imagining what the settings were in the book since I spent a few years in the Mojave desert. This is where the dead don't talk, but they do try and communicate with Odd Thomas. I don't know what I would personally do if I the dead were trying to communicate with me, but his first instinct is to ignore and find a way to silence them to keep his world simple and normal.

I love the fact that this book has no foretelling that inside hides so much hidden meaning and puzzle pieces that are just begging to be put together. This sidekick will guide you into seeing deeper into the novel that has eluded so many readers for far too long. Anyone who has read Saint Odd has to pick this book up. It's better than anyother reading aid material I have read regarding this specific book. I highly recommend Saint Odd by Dean Koontz and I also highly recommend you pick up the Sidekick to the book by Katherine Miller. I give both books 5/5.

Another great sidekick book by Katherine Miller. This one is a match to the book Still Alice by Lisa Genova. Still Alice is about what it's like to have Alzheimers. Alice is a very smart psychologist who is in denial about having the disease. The sidekick will help you understand why she's in denial despite her being highly intelligent and aware of the signs of the disease.

Still Alice will bring most people to tears as you're taken on a ride with Alice as she slowly falls into the arms of the disease. You can tell there is thought and emotion evoked into each sentence. You will feel every emotion Alice feels, because her words and thoughts are just so powerful.

The sidekick dives into the hidden meanings behind some of the plots in the book. Some say Alice is too much aware of what is happening to her body as her brain turns over to Alzheimers, but no one can truly know what it's like to be in Alice's shoes.

This is a must read for anyone who is dealing with someone with Alzheimers, or Dementia. You cannot read Still Alice without it's sidekick which helps you understand what is behind Lisa Genova's words. Just when you think there can't be any more emotion added to this book, you open the sidekick and realize there's so much more behind the book that isn't blatantly apparent when you first read through Still Alice. It opened my eyes to the book, which opened me up to understanding more about the disease, and the author herself. I enjoyed reading the sidekick. It is a perfect match to Still Alice and compliments it very well. I give this book 5/5.
