The description of Forget My Name had me intrigued that is why I requested it, plus I do like a good thriller/suspense book to get my teeth into. It starts with a woman turning up to a house in a village she knocks on the door and says she has forgotten her name but remembers the house, detailing the layout of the house. The couple now living there feel a bit sorry for her and offer to put her up for the night and take her to the doctor the following morning. During this time the husband decides that she looks like a Jemma and so she is called that. But there was a murderer called Jemma from that village too, who did live in the same house, a coincidence? Will she get her memory back and find out she is, in fact, the murderer called Jemma or is something else going on? Well, you will have to read the book to find out.

This book did have me completely hooked as I really didn’t know what was going to happen next. Just when I thought I had sussed it all out something would happen and I was back to square one. And when I did realise what was happening it was like a movie, the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat just waiting to see what would happen at the end. I was not disappointed. I absolutely loved this book!

Adam, a respected paediatrician, is living the life he dreamed of with his wife and children. The only little glitch is that Adam constantly feels he’s under surveillance, but when he suddenly bumps into an old flame from university in peculiar circumstances, it opens up a whole can of worms with some very sinister consequences.

I was gripped by this story from beginning to end. It’s told via a dual timeline, that of the current day and during 1998, the past impacting the present. There’s a definite dark feel to this really quite disturbing tale. It’s quite scary at times and it had me on tenterhooks as to what was going to happen next. I read this book via the Pigeonhole app alongside other readers, receiving a stave a day for ten days. Dr Faustus meets Angel Heart in this well written and plotted psychological thriller which takes the reader on a roller coaster of a ride into some very nightmarish places. Beware! You never know who is watching you! 🎥👀… (mehr)

I always enjoy JS Monroe's writing but I have to say that No Place to Hide exceeded my already high expectations. I found this book to be absolutely addictive.

Dr Adam Pound is a respected paediatrician. He's happily married to Tania and has two lovely children. His life is good apart from his paranoia about being filmed - the new CCTV camera on his street is a big concern - and the unexpected reappearance of Clio, the one that got away from his years at Cambridge, which changes everything.

The story bounds along at a fast pace with chapters in the present alternating with chapters telling the story of what happened at Cambridge, perfectly blended so that as each part of the story is revealed it further heightens the tension, building and building until the crescendo at the end. It's quite an intense read, both disturbing and disconcerting, and also completely believable. The reader travels into the murky world of the dark web, of blackmail, of panic, fear and suspicion. Monroe immersed me in Adam's world so completely and I was thoroughly absorbed in it from start to finish. I wouldn't recommend reading the exciting final scenes just before going to sleep though as I had some quite weird dreams that night. This is a tale that makes you start to question everything that technology offers us, both the good and the bad.

No Place to Hide is an utterly gripping and taut read which provided me with shock after shock within the story's many twists and turns. I thought it was tremendously well done, both frightening and sinister at times, but with a main character I really rooted for. This is what I call a psychological thriller!
