Rezensionen

This book is #35 in a series of monographs designed to provide clergy and laymen the best works in Biblical scholarship both in this country and abroad. The volumes in this series are planned to further the study of Biblical theology within the Church. Based on historical and literary research, the primary aim of the series is to set out more clearly the nature of Biblical faith as a living phenomenon of vital significance for the contemporary Christian.

It is always a risk going back into topical sermons after 40 years. In this case, although the details have changed, very few of them have lost their topicallity. Unfortunately.

Hugh Montefiore offers the hypothesis that at least some of Jesus' miracles might be examples of paranormal gifts. I'm not sure I go along with him in his interpretation, but the idea is very interesting, he writes as well as ever, and many of the stories of the saints are not well known outside of the Roman Catholic church.

I found this the least satisfying of the books by Montefiore that I have read. It opens up more questions than it even tries to answer.
