- Charles Smith Morris (1833-1922) was a dime novelist, historian, and compiler. His early works included short stories, poems, and serials published in Beadle's "Saturday Journal". He wrote eleven volumes of "Historical Tales", four school histories of the US, a "History of the World", the "True Story of Mexico", and a "History of Pennsylvania". Morris wrote biographies of Queen Victoria and President McKinley, and lurid books about the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and the 1902 volcanic eruptions on Martinique. He edited a report of Cook's and Peary's polar explorations.
