The Book of World Records was always a favorite during school book fairs. I remember students always surrounding multiple copies of the book trying to find the next fastest car, top earning singer, biggest monster truck, or fastest roller coaster. I like these books because I feel like they are a way for a child to set goals for the future. If a child likes to sing, he may read this book and think that he wants to be so successful in the music industry that he wants to beat out Paul McCartney for being the top earning male singer in 2005. Another student may want be the C.E.O. of her own department store chain and wish to someday make more than $20 billion dollars to beat out Alice Walton as the richest woman in the world. These books are filled with interesting, albeit mostly useless, facts that can help students think about who they want to be in the future.… (mehr)
