Lee, the Rabbit child, is fishing with her grandfather when suddenly she doesn't respond to the fish on her pole. She is just staring out at the water. Her grandfather believed that Lee had just dropped it by accident, but she presents the same behavior at the dinner table. Her parents take her to see an Owl doctor who runs some medical tests on her. He informs Lee that she has epilepsy and gives her parents some medication for her to take that will slow the risk for seizures. Lee, afraid that she will drop her pole into the river again, gets nervous but her grandfather persists. Lee helps her grandfather catch a fish, and her confidence is restored. This book was published in 1989 and is part of the “Special Needs Collection”. While the term “special needs” is no longer acceptable, the item does not have a revised edition to remove the unacceptable name. However, the meta-data used to catalog the item was correctly used with the subject as Epilepsy and Epilepsy > Juvenile Literature. Symbolism in this book is very prominent in the book with the monarch butterfly on every page of the storyline. Butterflies are commonly associated with epilepsy and provide a symbol to guide children through the book. The book can be described as having an older art style utilizing many strokes to create textures.
