This is the story of Lewis Armistead, the confederate general who was mortally wounded at Pickett's charge in Gettysburg. He led the group of soldiers who advanced the farthest to what is now called "the high water mark of the Confederacy" at "the angle" during the charge. He never did get to see his old friend, the Union general Winfield Scott Hancock, who opposed him. This story was depicted with great poignance in the 1993 movie "Gettysburg".

When my family was getting ready for an East Coast trip to see select sites, I resolved to have a better experience at Gettysburg. This book, bought at the gift store along with the corresponding CD, was a great purchase. My high school and junior high school sons also enjoyed the narrative as we cruised the site at a leisurely pace. The maps of the battlefield sites are excellent.
