This is not a scintillating read, just a compendium of facts that were not likely published elsewhere. Genealogists researching families who settled this area will find factual information on the settlers, such as lists of judges, sheriffs, county commissioners, newspaper publishers, and on and on. This volume has something of the nature of a gazetteer or almanac about it.

Despite inaccuracies and typographical errors (most of which seem to have occurred during the 1981 revision of the 1958 original), this is a treasure trove of information on the families who settled in central Texas between 1858 and 1958.
