A lot of stuff here for 99¢. This book has dragons, goblins, elves, and magic in a high-tech world. This first book of the series introduces a lot of characters and sets up a world with a much potential for future stories.

Excellent and strange. Tightly plotted and well characterised. Not without it's problems, but the sheer ingenuity of the world overrides the few issues I have.

Another enjoyable and strange K23 book. Not for the faint of heart or those who are resistant to strange.

Noah Murphy’s Deltan Skies is a fantasy adventure that will enchant action fans. Set in New Delta, Quintanelle is a Teolian Mage in need of a job. In a world where non-humans are looked down upon, private detectives pretty much are the law enforcement, and mega corporations run the city through their money, being a magical outsider is not a good thing. When Alfonso Deegan, a well-known private detective, hires her to be his assistant, Quintanelle feel like she’s finally hit the jackpot. Soon, however, the Syndicate, a megacorp run by outsider criminal Avians, kidnaps Quintanelle and tries to use her to not only draw out Alfonso and his employees (also the Avians’ enemies), but also to make the city pay for the massacre its officials unleashed on the Avians and decimated their population. If things couldn’t be worse, Quintanelle’s father enters into the picture and tries to use his Elven Mage status to forcibly bring her back and take her back to Teolos. Will Quintanelle find a way to escape? Will Alfonso and Quintanelle find a way to save the city?

One great aspect of Murphy’s novel is the way the author easily draws you into the world of New Delta. The characters are well-developed, entertaining, and make such a fantasy world seem plausible. The plot is well-paced and has a unique mix of humor, seriousness, magic, and action.

The only problem with this novel is the lack of language skills of some of the non-human, poor creatures can be a little confusing at first, but it adds a level of complexity that helps make New Delta more believable. This engaging fantasy adventure is a page turner that any readers who enjoys magic, action, and worlds with elves and a variety of creatures will have a hard time putting down.
