In The Line Of Fire is Pervez Musharraf's autobiographical reminisce of his time doing the world's most dangerous duty-being the tenth President of Pakistan. On the side, Musharraf was also a serving four-star military General of the Pakistani Army as well as its Director-General of Operations when capitulated to political fame as the USA's most resolute Islamic ally during the War On Terror.

His autobiography reads as much a self-exoneration as an exercise in finger-pointing. He denies his primacy in the Kargill conflict; whitewashes the allegations of corruption and desertion levelled against him while superficially calling for the democratization of Islam though he provides no framework for this or even a coherent definition of what democratization entails in the Muslim sense.

Lucid and thought provoking, I walked away with a sense of befuddlement after reading Musharraf's words. Not because he is a tiresome writer. But because he is notorious for the multiple skeletons in his closet.

A good read mainly but must take it with a pinch of salt and take in mind the author's agenda. After all, Musharraf was still in power when he wrote this.

This book is not intended for anyone looking for controversial issues but provides a good oversight of the man who came to power by way of coup.… (mehr)

From this book, one gets not just Mushrrar's background, but an insight into his personality. Since it is an autobiography, you get his views on issues, whether right or wrong. Some events and issues may be covered more lightly than a reader would like. Still, a book like this does give an insight into the author's beliefs.
