Jack E. Myers (1913–2006)

A well-written collection of interesting scientific studies of a variety of animals. It doesn't really answer the title question, but spends four pages summarizing on-going Russian research into breeding foxes for tameness. The other eleven chapters focus on various other animals and subjects. Professor Myers does a phenomenal job of taking scientific literature and making it approachable for young children. The book features water-color drawings, photographs, charts, tables, and maps. It is a worthy introduction to zoology for elementary school- aged children.… (mehr)

This book describes several scientific finds and how they came about. It answers interesting questions about animal behavior. The book is very informational and could be used by students for research about animal mysteries. This would also be a good book to share in a science class. The book is filled with illustrations, including some cartoon ones and some that are realistic. There also diagrams that help accompany the text. I like that there is an index and bibliography in the book because it makes it easier for children to use.… (mehr)
