The Best of Omni Science Fiction No. 5
Not to my taste; too outrageous and/or depressing - but any Dick, Ellison, Spinrad, ..., completists out there, take note. I'd like to find a good home for my copy....
For a time, brief and yet wonderful, Science Fiction seemed poised to take over, to become mainstream in some strange way. OMNI reflected that fact, and in the beginning, it was ground-breaking, and amazing, publishing some of the greats. This first collection had pieces that presage the later works of Zelazny (Half Jack) and George R R Martin (Sandkings), and it may be the only magazine I've kept over the years.
It always seemed male-focused, and in the end, I quit reading it (time is finite, and choosing how to spend it is important). I was still quite saddened when it suddenly vanished (due to the death of Kathy Keeton) in 1997. Things change.… (mehr)
