Warnings about what can happen if we're broken in the wrong places, and promises of what can happen if we're broken in the right places. A quote: "Christianity is intended to free us from ourselves, not bind us to another system. Only when we die to the sinful nature and through brokenness allow God to do all He wants in us, can we ever reach our full potential."

A fantastic discussion regarding developing spiritual maturity.

The author takes the lead of the "Emotional Intelligence" concept and applies it to Christianity and "spiritual intelligence," attempting to ascertain why it is that there are many people in church and yet not a lot of spiritual maturity.

He speaks of different elements that make up spiritual intelligence, or SI-- knowledge, behavior, attitude, and relationships, and provides assessment tools for people to consider where they have been, where they are, and where they should go relative to SI. He then spends much of his time considering what he has found to be the critical elements in SI growth, following the methodology of Jesus-- a small group, obtaining direction from God, active faith, and following and then being a spiritual coach or director. He addresses some challenges in growth and describes different types of believers and their particular SI strengths and weaknesses.

If you're willing to be challenged to greater spiritual growth and to break out of the knowledge-only paradigm, this book is a must-read.
