Edimorwhitimormiligimmus Tug has a name that is a mouthful. It’s difficult for me to read aloud and I read children’s books aloud almost every day.
One day, his new teacher shortens his name to “Ed” on a nametag and Edimorwhitimormiligimmus’s feelings are hurt. His name is a special family name. He then gently educates his classmates and teacher as to what each part of his name means and why it is important to him and his family. His classmates eventually become used to his name.

I get what the book is trying to teach, that each of us should be accepted as we are. However, this book did not resonate with me. The boy’s name simply is a MOUTHFUL. I don’t believe any parents would truly cram together names this way.

Yes, I think all people should be treated with respect and be called by the name they request.
I guess I prefer Tikki Tikki Tembo No Sa Rembo Chari Bari Ruchi Pip Peri Pembo for it’s rhythm.

I won this book at LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review but as of now I have NOT received this book!!! I marked it as NOT received on the site but LibaryThing recorded it AS received. I do not have the book yet. I hope that the book will still arrive. I’d love to own a copy and I want to trust LibraryThing’s giveaway system.

While I wait I read the book online via Hoopla from my public library system.

I knew that I would love this book. It’s dedicated in part to children whose names are mispronounced or misspelled.

That was me, both my first and last name, and that is often true even today. There were ways I made light of it and I have some amusing stories about the pronunciations of my first name and surname.

I mostly was thinking about a classmate I had from upper elementary school on who had a long Hawaiian first name which was not only shortened to only 4 letters & 2 syllables but was mispronounced with the accent on the wrong syllable. I didn’t know this until high school though. She said she never minded her name being abbreviated and pronounced wrong but I’m confident we as fifth graders could have easily learned her full name and used it. It was beautiful! I also thought of another example where in my third grade class of only 16 students there were three boys with the same first name and two of them had the same last name. In that case it at least sort of made sense that we called them by somewhat different names, especially since they got to choose their monikers.

This is a charming and delightful book. The story is sweet and fun. I appreciated how Edimorwhitimormiligimmus explained how he was named after four people and all were honored within his long first name. The narrative and illustrations show the special relationships that were shared with each of the four people he was named after. I loved the included humor and enjoyed the reveal about his new classmate and friend. Edimorwhitimormiligimmus does not want to be called Ed. His teacher gives him a nametag that says “Ed” to supposedly make it easier to learn for a new student named Ty. It turns out that the new boy (and the other students with some help from Edimorwhitimormiligimmus) are able to easily learn and use his preferred name. At the end it is revealed that Ty’s full first name is Tyvantennyson, and the illustrations show that some of the other students in the class have first & middle names both common and uncommon and of all lengths.

I love the creativity and out of the box thinking and kindness shown by Edimorwhitimormiligimmus Tug.

I thoroughly enjoyed all of the illustrations. They have more than one style and different types of use of color. They’re perfect for the story. I found them aesthetically pleasing, especially the ones that are intricately detailed and colorful.

I hope that LibraryThing comes through and I receive a copy of this book. It is one I’d like to own and to share. I could see giving it as a gift, especially for children who have unusual names.

I’m supposed to receive a copy of this book from LibraryThing in exchange for an honest review.
