Bronislava Nijinska was a Russian-born ballet dancer and choreographer. She was the daughter of two ballet dancers. Nijinska was enrolled in the Imperial Ballet School in St. Petersburg with her brother Vaslav Nijinsky. Her teachers were Enrico Cecchetti, Mikhail Fokine, and Nicholai Legat. She mehr anzeigen joined Serge Diaghilev's Ballet Russe in 1909 and from that time on danced important roles in Le Carnival, L'Apres-midi d'un Faune, Petrouchka, Les Sylphides, and Prince Igor. For Diaghilev she choreographed Les Noces, Le Train Bleu, and Romeo et Julliette, the only woman to do so. Later she created the dances for Max Reinhardt's American film, A Midsummer Night's Dream. - Bronislava Nijinska was a leading choreographer and ballet teacher of the 20th century. She trained in Russia and danced with the Ballets Russes in Europe, as did her brother Vaslav Nijinsky. She choreographed several famous ballets for that company, including Les Noces, The Blue Train, and Les Biches. In the 1930s she had her own company called called the Polish Ballets of Paris. She emigrated to America in 1938.
