YA story of a flesh-eating curse that inflicts a boy, his twin sister must learn hoodoo magic in order to cure him. Stereotyped tropes do not make up for the poor characterization, even the main character does not have much going for her. There was not enough about hoodoo practices and way too much of the main character mooning after Cooper,
I picked this up at a library book sale and I think I will take it down to the Little Free Library,

Conjure intrigued me beyond my expectations. I enjoyed it. Conjure is a unique read that you won’t want to miss. It’s enchanting and entertaining with history weaving its way through the curses. The cover is beautiful and this book is fun, adventure, and magic all rolled up into one!

Conjure is the first book in The Hoodoo Apprentice series by Lea Nolan. This is a very adventurous book told from Emma’s point of view. Her, and her twin brother Jack, are staying with their dad in South Carolina for the summer. Their friend Cooper lives here, and together the 3 of them find an ancient bottle that leads to horrendous curses. Emma must learn hoodoo magic to save her brother’s life, and the soul of Cooper – her crush.

There were a lot of twists and turns and the mystery was written in a way that kept me guessing up until the end. I’m looking forward to the sequel, especially since it ended on a cliffhanger. I highly recommend it!

This book just wasn't for me I only got a third of the way through the book before I gave up and put it down. I am not exactly sure why I did not like it because it is the sort of story I usually enjoy, maybe I was just not in the mood. But, for whatever reason I did not like it.

The Universe has spoken. Lark thinks it has spoken in a positive way. Hunter, ever the pessimist, thinks it is sending a "no way" message. Lark and Hunter dated in college and things didn't end well for them thanks to deception from her father. Six years later, they are thrown together again in Heron Harbor when her sister, Wren is getting married. Lark drives this old RV and lives the Boho lifestyle of an artist. Hunter is the Police Chief. I can just picture them when Lark's RV breaks down on her way into town. Hunter, of course, is the one to stop and rescue her. From there, it's a series of misadventures that seriously make you think the universe is saying no. But through a medical emergency, planning a wedding, learning about family deception and secrets, figuring out how they really feel about each other; Hunter and Lark are able to come back together and figure out there future. I found this book fun and entertaining. I could picture this over in a town in Maine. The description sounded like the perfect place. The characters were quite entertaining. I definitely recommend this one.… (mehr)
