- K.L. Noone loves fantasy, romance, cats, far too sweet coffee, and happy endings! She is also the author of Port in a Storm and its upcoming sequel, available from Less Than Three Press, and numerous short romances with Ellora’s Cave and Circlet Press; her fantasy fiction has appeared in Marion Zimmer Bradley’s Sword and Sorceress anthologies. With her Professor Hat on, she teaches college students about Shakespeare and superhero comics, and has published academic articles and essays on Neil Gaiman’s adaptations of Beowulf, Welsh mythology in modern fantasy, and Terry Pratchett’s Discworld novels.

This is an enjoyable sequel to SORCERESS, featuring the antagonist (not villain) from that story as the main (and POV) character. It was neat to see Lorre's POV in this book, since he's only half human and sees the world in a different way as a result. My favorite part was the character interactions. Even in gentle fantasy novels, it seems rare to find this level of kindness among the various characters. I'm not going to give any spoiler-y details, but even the antagonists in this book were not truly evil. I really appreciated that.
Side note: while I greatly enjoyed the plot and character development, there are also a LOT of sex scenes. More than I had anticipated. They were all definitely consensual and focused on mutual enjoyment. However, I had NOT expected this level of spiciness when I picked up this book. It's a good read, just be ready for the spicy scenes.
Also, as another side note: I really want the third book in this series that Noone mentioned in her notes at the end. That one sounds like a LOT of fun.… (mehr)

What a gem. Lyrical and sweet, funny and intense, and the prose paints the settings and characters perfectly. Delightful. It is insta-love but it is magical too, so who could care?
What a fantastic, chaotically sweet fantasy romance. And the bonus story at the end is the perfect epilogue.

I wasn't really expecting much from this book, to be honest. Something cookie cutter, probably. Instead, I got this fluffy little (original, I think) fairy tale that was really, really good. Interesting characters, good story telling, and the writing was sharp.
