I remember reading the Webtoon version of this and loving the humor.

I was pleasantly surprised that everything is new and repurposed here. Some actual good advice in between the laughs.

Mostly relatable three-panel comic that ends with the titular catchphrase "oh no". I really liked it at first, but it started feeling a bit repetitive halfway through. Recommended reading in small doses.

Note - I received a free digital copy of the book from the publisher. This has not influenced my review in any way.

(Full disclosure: I received a free e-ARC for review through Edelweiss.)

If you're a fan of Alex Norris's webcomic, WEBCOMIC NAME (three panels, always ending in in the plaintive exclamation "oh no!"), then you're sure to love their latest, HOW TO LOVE. It feels like Norris stuck the "oh no!" blobs into a blender with a medley of queer advice columns and out came HOW TO LOVE. What I'm trying to say is: it's awesome.

What began as "a surreal parody of over-simplified love advice" blossomed into a "relationships 101" guide that's silly, irreverent, and charmingly sincere. Norris explores various facets of relationships - both romantic and platonic - though a queer lens. Gender, sexual attraction, self-love, setting boundaries, breaking up, remaining friends with an ex, love triangles - Norris tackles each, using metaphors (Rapunzel is a personal favorite), whimsy, and weirdness to help readers navigate the perilous waters of dating and sex (and yeah, friendship, ixnay on the "just").

Though it's aimed at teens and young adults, honestly, I think we can all find a little wisdom (and lols) in these here pages.

Despite the repetition of the running gag, I never tired of these toons, laughing out loud multiple times at the universality of the surface gag, the metafiction aspect, or its deconstruction of the comic strip format.

Mostly I think it appeals to the broken and pessimistic part of my soul.
