Kurzbiographie
From Random House: Laurie Notaro was born in Brooklyn, New York, and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. She packed her bags for Eugene, Oregon, once she realized that since she was past thirty, her mother could no longer report her as a teenage runaway. She is the author of The Idiot Girls’ Action-Adventure Club, Autobiography of a Fat Bride, I Love Everybody, We Thought You’d Be Prettier, and An Idiot Girl’s Christmas. She is currently at work on a plan B (to take effect when her book contract runs out,) which consists of options with minimum dander of office politics, including selling hot dogs at Costco, selling hot dogs from a street cart, selling hot dogs at high school football games, or being the Stop sign holder for road construction crews. She avoids raccoons both day and night and fully expects to be run out of her new hometown once this book is published. At press time, she is still married, her cat is still alive, and she has an adorably disobedient dog named Maeby, who wears sweaters and loves chicken strips. (Clearly, Notaro has no children.)

Rezensionen

4.5/5 I had the pleasure of sitting next to Laurie Notaro in our AP English class back in 1983. Her satirical voice was on display even way back then. I have followed and read her books ever since, and I reread my favorites. This is one of them. If you're from my era, you will laugh snot out of your nose at her and her family's antics around the holidays. She's the female Dave Barry, IMHO, and she never fails to lift my mood.

This book was just not my cup of tea. I tried to like it but while there were moments that were laugh out loud funny, there were many that were not.

I can see where there is an audiance for this book. It just wasn't me.

I wanted to like this more than I did. I'm the right demographic for the book, but despite that, I still had trouble identifying with many things Ms Notaro writes about. And while some of her essays were amusing, things weren't as funny as I thought they might be. Good enough but not outstanding.

Hilarious. I read it quickly, and went on to read some of her other non-fiction books. She is an inspiration to heavy, clumsy women everywhere!
