Fun story. Got it free from Kindle first reads so even better. Reccommend to anyone who enjoys a nice family centered story.

"Two women forge a friendship during WWII through their letters to each other, allowing them to survive the loneliness and uncertainty of waiting on the home front and giving them the courage to face the battles raging in their very own backyards."

I loved this book, and the format of telling it through the letters these two women wrote to each other during an extraordinarily hard time in their lives. The friendship and the support they showed to each other, and others in their immediate circles, was so heartwarming. This book dealt with huge issues, yes, but more importantly, I think, were the mundane daily problems, mostly caused by how lonely they were without their husbands. They grew so much, though, over the course of the book, and I greatly admired their tenacity and inner strength.

I'm giving this book 5 out of 5 stars, and highly recommend it.

5/5 stars.

*** I would like to thank NetGalley, Harlequin MIRA, Suzanne Hayes and Loretta Nyhan for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was a well written story that covered the topics of adoption, DNA testing and autoimmune disorders. Kylie has suffered from a chronic autoimmune disorder throughout childhood. She’s been to more doctors that she and her mom Ally can count, and all those visits and tests have left her with more questions than answers. This novel does a good job of showing the perspective of those who suffer from orphan illnesses, and the reality that sometimes medical science does not have concrete answers even when something is clearly very, very wrong.

When Kylie and her mom go to Dr. Indigo, an alternative medicine specialist, will her methods help, or are they yet another in a long line of odd and ultimately ineffective treatments? I liked all the inclusive messages in this one, both about disability and about adoption. And cute funny moments, particularly with Cassie’s dog!

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader.

I can honestly count on one hand the number of books I've read this year that I loved (and I read a lot of books), and contemporary isn't usually my thing (I'm a historical fiction fan). But I absolutely loved this book. It was funny, tender, sad, poignant and the characters felt truly real to me. The pacing was perfect, the plot and subplots were expertly woven and I cried happy and sad tears while reading it. Any book that evokes an emotion in me, let alone multiple emotions, is a five-star in my book. I look forward to reading more of Ms. Nyhan's work.… (mehr)
