Very interesting book in that it was written NINE YEARS BEFORE the Covid -19 pandemic! I brought this book and read it to see how much the author got right and wrong about a global pandemic striking the world and was interested to see some of the differences they imagined. This book is set in New Zealand (rather than my home country Australia) but the author has added extra problems such as NO school, electricity, INTERNET and deliveries which means kids are bored and have to entertain themselves and people start trading goods for food as they can't get groceries delivered. The rest of the book is pretty much true to form with masks being the norm and people being told to stay at home until it is safe to venture back out again. The author also seems to "end" the pandemic a lot quicker than this one !

This is the story of Zac who lives with his Mum and brothers and sisters and how they plant vegies, guard the eggs from their chickens like gold, get to know their neighbourhood very well ( as they can't go anywhere else) and their neighbors even better ( especially the retired doctor next door when one brother gets injured ) . Nice book that will resonate well with today's students.… (mehr)
