An interesting rhetorical analysis of ancient indian and chinese philosophical texts and the things they tell us about rules and customs of communication in these societies. The author seems to possess a pretty extensive understanding of both eastern philosophy and the social history of india and china, so this is a very educational book. The chapters on indian thought were in my opinion a bit better than the ones on chinese thought since the author delves a bit too deep into the rhetoric of specific works in the latter. But in any case this was a very good book and the conclusions the author draws about ancient asian rhetoric have implications extending to the present day.… (mehr)
